Air pollution is one dangerous environmental change for humans. Given the reason that humans cannot live without air for even minutes, the impact of air pollution and the resulting causes that it is creating is a cause of worry.
Air Pollution Essay in English
Air pollution is the reduction in the air quality due to the entry of poisonous chemicals and particulates. They mix in the air making it unfit for human inhalation. When humans inhale the polluted air, these chemicals interfere with the normal working of the respiratory and circulatory systems and create various short-term as well as long-term repercussions.
What problems are caused by air pollution?
Chemicals in the air can cause many problems across various ranges. They impact the social life and physical health of the persons living in polluted surroundings.
When humans inhale polluted air, it can cause lung cancer in the long run. Polluted air is also the reason behind asthma triggering and skin allergies.
Polluted air has severe impacts on pregnant women, children, and the elderly. As this group of people has low immunity, the impact of air pollution is strong as well as severe on them.
Air pollution is shown to affect the infants growing in the womb too. Pregnant women exposed to polluted air have shown various complications and babies also displayed certain abnormalities when they are born.
Why does air get polluted?
Air pollution has many causes. Majorly, industrialization is the cause of air pollution. Emissions from industries, vehicles, and automobiles are one main source of air pollution. The burning of forests is another prime source that releases harmful gases into the air. One major cause of concern with forest fires is that they spread without limit and release vast amounts of gases into the air before they are controlled. This impact spreads to miles across the impacted area thus affecting the whole biodiversity.
Air pollution is not limited only to the outdoors. Indoor air pollution is also on a rise these days. This is due to the usage of chemicals for cleaning, air conditioners, and refrigerators.
Along with these, the releases from pets, fine particles that are left uncleaned from the home, etc. can trigger allergies too.
In rural areas, the usage of fuelwood for cooking is a major source of pollution. This is causing both deforestation for fuel and adding smoke and emissions into the air. This is particularly rampant in urban areas where there are no trees or airflow possible.
Some places experience severe air pollution because of their geography. For instance, the capital of India, Delhi is one city that is trapped on one side with high mountains that prevent the outflow of dust brought in by the desert winds.
Thus, there exist many reasons for air pollution.
How can we control air pollution?
We can control air pollution by switching to natural energy resources and stop using fuels derived from fossils. Petroleum and diesel contribute to air pollution and hence we should think about alternatives that work on solar, wind, hybrid power energy sources, etc.
Trees have great power to curb air pollution. Planting more trees and turning concrete cities into green forests is one great way to reduce air pollution.
By reducing the usage of vehicles and minimizing them once or twice a week, air pollution levels can be brought down with effectiveness.
Industries should strictly adhere to air pollution norms and regulations. This will not put the people living around at risk. Governments should take stringent actions on the industries that are leading to air pollution.
Thus, air pollution has many ways that cause it as well as many ways to curb it. It is everyone’s responsibility.
