If your answer to the questions mentioned above is, you must read this article. Here, in this article, we will tell you what Gynecologists and Obstetricians are and their differences. Since for some people going to a Gynecologist or an obstetrician can be a little stressful, we will tell you how to prepare yourself to visit the best gynecologist in sonipat. So, please read this article to the end.

What is Gynaecology?

Gynecology also spelled as gynecology, is a medical term for medical practice dealing with the female reproductive system’s help. The word Gynaecology itself means ‘the science of women.’ Some of Gynecology’s subdivisions are Maternal-fetal medicine, maternal medicine, and Oncology.

This medical practice deals with contraception, pregnancy, fertility, and gynecological diseases. The treatments within this field are non-surgical and are generally treated with different techniques and medications.

Usually, the two terms Gynaecology and Obstetrics, go together. Most modern doctors you will see today are both Gynecologists and Obstetrics both.

What is the Difference Between a Gynecologist and an Obstetrician?

A Gynecologist deals with a woman’s reproductive health from puberty through menopause and later. For their pelvic and pap test, women see their Gynecologists every year. Some other issues like discomfort and pain in breasts, genitals, uterus, contraception, and infertility issues are dealt with by a Gynecologist. A Gynecologist is the one who deals with the diagnosis and diseases like cancers of the fallopian tube, vagina, cervix, uterus, and ovaries. They are also responsible for treating the prolapse of the pelvic organs that usually occur after menopause. There are very few surgical procedures that Gynecologists perform, like Cone Biopsy, Salpingectomy, Oophorectomy, Hysterectomy, Tubal Ligation.

On the other hand, an Obstetrician deals with the newborn baby’s welfare and the pregnant woman. Many complications can arise during pregnancy, like ectopic pregnancy. Apart from this, there are many complications and problems the mother has to go through during the pregnancy. The phase is critical and stressful. An obstetrician is trained to deal with such cases. It doesn’t matter whether the child has been delivered vaginally or through a cesarean surgery that can either be pre-planned or an emergency. An Obstetrician is learned enough to handle all the complications, especially during childbirth.

Also, after the delivery and, in fact, during pregnancy, the mother needs to consume a healthy balanced diet, abstain from particular food and drinks, and many more. Such things both critical for the mother and the baby are taken care of by the Obstetrician. In today’s world, Obstetricians have been the life saviors of many. Unlike the primitive times, the chance of newborn babies surviving has become very high, and the credit goes to Obstetricians.

How do I Prepare for a Gynecologist Appointment?

Many people get stressed out after knowing they have to visit a Gynecologist. One must understand that this is something significant, and there is nothing to get embarrassed about or stress out. A Gynecologist is just another doctor you visit. Here are some tips and advice for you to prepare yourself for a visit to a Gynecologist –

  • Avoid scheduling when you are in your periods:

Your pelvic exam or pap test can be interfered with by the blood. Avoid visiting your Gynecologist during this period unless in some exceptional cases. Call and ask your doctor about this beforehand.

  • Avoid Pelvic Grooming:

A bikini wax or any hair removal method can cause inflammation or swelling. This makes the exam challenge. Your doctor isn’t going to judge you for that.

  • Avoid douching:

Some women feel embarrassed about vaginal odors and discharge, and before visiting the Gynecologists, they try douching. If you douche, the doctor will have difficulty judging if you have any bacterial imbalance, yeast problem, the shift in bacterial flora, hormonal issues, etc.

  • Avoid intercourse:

Avoid having intercourse a day before the pelvic examination. This affects the tests, and also, do not use any lubrication products before the test.

  • Track your cycle:

Your doctor will ask you about your cycle. Keep exact track of it as accurately as possible.

Also, keep in mind some general things like keeping your medical records handy and especially preparing for all the questions you have in your mind, including the embarrassing ones.
